House Fly Pupae
House Fly Pupae
Musca domestica, commonly known as the house fly, is a fantastic enrichment food for your reptiles, amphibians, or invertebrates. Their lively flight provides not only a nutritious meal but also an engaging and stimulating experience for your pets.
Adult house flies measure around 8–12 millimeters, making them an ideal size for various reptiles, amphibians, fish, and birds. Each cup contains an overcount of healthy pupae to account for natural hatching variability, packaged with wheat bran for easy storage.
How to Feed:
House flies are quick movers! To simplify feeding, chill them in the fridge for a few minutes before transferring them to your pet’s enclosure. This temporarily slows them down, allowing you to easily add them to the habitat. Watch as your pet eagerly chases these protein-packed treats! Remove any uneaten flies promptly to prevent breeding within the enclosure.
How to Store:
Store the pupae in the refrigerator to maintain freshness until ready for use. For hatching, transfer them to a container with a substrate like wheat bran or paper towels, keeping the temperature between 77-86°F and humidity levels between 20-40%. With proper conditions, flies typically emerge within 3-7 days. Avoid adding moisture to the pupae, as excess humidity can hinder successful hatching.
Lower temperatures can delay hatching up to three weeks, but prolonged storage reduces viability. For best results, use the pupae within a couple of weeks of purchase.

Fantastic quality and customer service!
Perfect. Don’t have to put them in a bigger container or add substrate or anything. Just wait for them to hatch.
Trusted source for prey items. Recently purchased house fly pupae - very satisfied with quality!
I had been unhappy with the hatch rate from the supplier I was getting my houseflies from. I would get maybe two from a tried hatch of 10. So I decided to try Spood Food after seeing them on the spider pages I frequent. So when they arrived I assumed I would have a lower hatch rate and dumped a handful into the hatching container I use. Now I have like 30 flies and will be giving some to the breeder down the street! Good problem to have.
